I moved back to Maui this September. It's strange to be here after not living here for 17 years. It feels comforting and completely new. Many things have changed, and just as many are the same. I went to Kahului the other day to shop for a car. All the car dealerships along the highway are exactly the same, though this was my first time inside them. The salesman who showed us around happened to live on our road and happened to be my dad's friend's nephew. He knew both our names and how to spell mine. Usually people spell my name wrong. How did he know the spelling without asking?
