Still on the car search. Last night I was browsing Facebook Marketplace. A strange place to hang out. A site that feels rushed and expects you to sit on the search page and hold the refresh button. Good cars seem to sell in minutes. I message a seller about a 2004 Toyota RAV4 and multiple people have already set up viewings. Later I come across a
Honda Element. It's only been listed for 30 minutes so I sprint to message. I don't love the look of the Element and the cube seems awkward to drive around the windy Pali, but quickly I convince myself that it's "my car." The strange cube design feels very 2010 and I get a little nostalgic. It's a manual (haven't driven stick since high school). I imagine grinding the clutch on an unfamiliar car. Do I really want another thing to think about while driving? Though in reality I pretend automatic cars are manual when driving, holding the stick like I'm about to shift. I guess nostalgia suits me. I set up a test drive for the next day, but my hesitation shows and it sells while I'm on the way to take a closer look. Shoots. I guess it was a good find if it's already gone. I thought it being manual might slow it down, but I guess everyone learned stick in high school, just after backflip class.
